Free health care in your area: St. Bernadette Community Clinic

LAFAYETTE, La. (KATC) – Seven and a half years.
Our Lady of Lourdes has been part of Acadiana for a long time.

However, what you may not have realized is that for nearly 30 years, the hospital system has been making health care more accessible in your area. St. Bernadette Community Clinic in St. John Street in Downtown Lafayette is one example of that.

It’s where, for free, anyone who needs treatment can get the care they need. The clinic covers everything from your routine check-ups, to breast and pelvic exams, long-term care, pharmacy referrals, and even dental care and extractions – which can cost a lot of money otherwise.

“It’s nice to know that you can come sit and trust somebody, especially in your mouth, you know,” Ladisha Portalis, a Lafayette neighbor, tells KATC as she prepares to go under the knife. his second being done in St. Bernadette. . “They’re kind, quick, and patient, which you can’t always count on in another agency.”

Donations of basic necessities, medical supplies, and more are what keep St. Bernadette Community Clinic.

“Whether you come in wearing $300 shoes or no shoes, we treat you the same,” says Bridget Waldrup-Simpson, a nurse who works at the clinic. “Even though we don’t just treat the homeless, many of our patients may be homeless and off the street, so they may not be able to afford these things that we take for granted and you never know. what the other person wants is probably necessary.”

Making all of this possible depends solely on donations, fundraisers, volunteers, and other forms of community support through the Lourdes Foundation. It is a support that is needed consistently throughout the year, but especially during the summer months.

“We are very grateful for the community of Acadiana and their support throughout the year, but during the summer months, supplies can decrease even with our Christmas in July fundraiser and others like it, so help is really needed now,” Jeigh Stipe, Executive Director. of the Lourdes Foundation tells KATC.

Donations are needed year-round at St. Bernadette Community Clinic in Downtown Lafayette, but during the summer, the Lourdes Foundation reports a decrease every year.

Although you will see Catholic signs, art, and you believe in Catholicism entering St. At Bernadette or any other campus of Our Lady of Lourdes, we are told that you can be sure that the Catholic faith will not be pushed on non-subscribers. in it.

St. Bernadette Community Clinic is open Monday from 8 am to 2:30 pm and Tuesday to Thursday from 8 am to 4 pm and Thursday. All other services are walk-in.
